Little exposure to computers in my early years left me with no influences toward design. The first time I thought of designing anything digitally I was very certain every element, colour and style needed to be in it. Then, I thought more was best. Years and more independence later I met my first true influence to design through a local designer and friend. He would show me his designs and I just marvelled at how they looked and took interest in how they made me feel. Always very sleek and with focused clean lines and colours. What happened then, I believe, added the known with the unknown. The unknown being the machine he presented the work on; Apple. From that moment things clicked and I steadily became fascinated with the idea of creating my own versions while learning a difference in approach. Though I consider my attributes fitting to problem-solving, ultimately my inspiration is to live a life fashioned around peace of mind, efficiency, ease-of-use/understanding and limited complications.
I’m drawn to starting any project with an overload of research and chaos then allowing it to reduce from there. To deliver the message through as little as possible by understanding the whole message, inclusive of culture, company core and advertising objectives. To me, saying more with less is great design; coming from my original and top four inspirations, Steven Jobs, Steve Wozniak, Jonathan Ive and The Jobs and Ive symbiosis.
Inspiration also comes from social interactions and how people express their interpretation of the world and many industry influencers like Paul Arden, David Airey, Jonah Berger and Bonnie Siegler. I enjoy making designs that draw on emotions, where every aspect contributes to the message; fonts, colour palette and natures’ simplistic influence.
This portfolio reiterates my desire to ‘learn it from scratch’.
